Note: Apple is reporting a strong fourth-quarter profit due to robust sales and positive response to the iPhone. The iPhone maker sold 6.9 million units during the fourth quarter. Apple has already exceeded its goal of selling 10 million iPhones during 2008.

Note: Even during tough economic times, Google is proving it can deliver. The company reported a 26% increase in net income during the third quarter, bringing its total to $1.35 billion, up $1.07 billion from the same time last year. Google’s shares jumped 10% on news of the financial increase

Note: President George W. Bush has signed into law a bill that will stiffen penalties for movies and music piracy at the federal level. The new law will establish an intellectual property czar who will report directly to the President on copyright protection matters.

Note: The Federal Communications Commission has issued a report which concludes that concerns about a proposed free, national wireless Internet network are overblown. The report clears the way for an FCC plan to auction off airwaves to a bidder who agrees to provide that free network to consumers

Note: Google has launched AdSense For Games in beta as it moves forward with plans to put relevant advertising in Web-based games. The expansion of Google’s AdSense program targets young men in sports and action games. The ads will consist of videos that play before or after a game, or after completing a level.

Note: With the holiday season just weeks away, Nintendo is vowing to increase shipments of its Wii video gaming system to avoid supply shortfalls that cost the company the past two years. Nintendo executives said there will “significant increases” of Wiis in stores, but they stopped short of saying the supply will be able to meet the usual rabid December demand for the product

Note: Vudu will begin offering the “highest quality” HD movies this week. Sixty-five feature movie titles will be available in 1080p high-definition video format. The picture is better than “regular” HD but not as good as watching the movie from a physical Blu-ray disc.
