Mysteriously Warm Times in Antarctica
Note: A new study of Antarctica's past climate reveals that temperatures during the warm periods between ice ages (interglacials) may have been higher than previously thought. The latest analysis of ice core records suggests that Antarctic temperatures may have been up to 6°C warmer than the present day.

Note: Prime Minister Gordon Brown warned fellow world leaders on Sunday that they "cannot afford to fail" to strike a substantial deal on climate change in Copenhagen next month. Brown said the upcoming summit had to mark a "decisive global shift" towards tackling the issue, amid fears about the outcome of the crunch talks.

Note: Pittsburgh foreclosures for sale held off home price increases in the July-September quarter, based on data from the National Association of Realtors. The median sales price increased in the third quarter by only $400 to $124,600 from the April-June quarter.

Lists of Foreclosures to Grow as Defaults Hit Record Levels
Note: Lists of foreclosures will grow again in most states as mortgage defaults nationwide increased in the July-September quarter, based on a report from TransUnion. The report showed that 6.25 percent of all residential mortgages in the U.S. became delinquent during the quarter.

Note: Philadelphia foreclosed homes have not been rising as fast as in other cities partly because of the city's foreclosure prevention programs. One of these is its conciliation conference scheme in which lenders are mandated to meet face to face with distressed homeowners and volunteer lawyers.
